Potential COVID-19 exposure at Red Barn Brewing Company

Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit officials say Dr. David Colby, Medical Officer of Health for Chatham-Kent, is advising unvaccinated and partially vaccinated patrons who received table service at the Red Barn Brewing Company, 20466 Lagoon Rd, Blenheim, Ontario on Friday, July 23 between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. or Sunday, July 25 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., that they may have been exposed to COVID-19.

“Anyone who received table services at these times should self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms,” CL Public health officials said in a media release.

“Individuals who develop symptoms must self-isolate and should book an appointment at the COVID-19 Assessment Centre for testing.”

While low-risk contacts are instructed to monitor for symptoms, they are not required to isolate unless symptoms develop or they are otherwise instructed to do so by Chatham-Kent Public Health, officials say.

Information on booking a testing appointment is available at https://ckphu.com/covid-19/.

“Individuals who are not vaccinated or are not fully vaccinated with two doses, can decrease their risk of exposure to COVID-19 by receiving the COVID-19 vaccine,” CK Public Health officials added.

Information on upcoming clinics and options for vaccination can be found at https://ckphu.com/covid-19-vaccination-clinics/.

The Red Barn Brewing Company also addressed the situation on social media.

“This past year has been hard enough as it is – then today we hit another hurdle,” the company posted on Facebook.

“One of our employees (who is fully vaccinated) has tested positive for COVID, transmitted from someone at their other full time position. They gave us permission to let us know they are doing well and isolating for 14 days. But this also means that many of our staff who all work together will/may have to isolate and/or self monitor their condition.”

Red Barn Brewing Company officials added: “Public health suggested the best mode of action was to broadcast this news through media. Fortunately, we wanted everyone to hear this from us first so that everything is out in the open. What does this mean for the next week or two – well we don’t know yet. We don’t know if we have enough staff who didn’t work this past weekend who can come in this upcoming weekend to work. We don’t know if it will just be retail only or retail and a few tables.”

Public health officials say as of July 27, 2021 there are 14 active COVID-19 cases across all of Chatham-Kent.
