Impaired and stunt driving charges laid in Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent OPP officials allege: On Thursday, July 29, 2021, at approximately 9:41 p.m., a member of the Chatham-Kent Detachment Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a motor vehicle on Highway 401 Eastbound near Communication Road.

The officer was conducting speed enforcement and observed a motor vehicle travelling in excess of 170 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and while speaking with the driver, the officer found that the driver had been drinking alcohol.

Following a roadside screening test, the driver was placed under arrest and taken to the Chatham-Kent OPP Detachment for testing with a Qualified Intoxilizer Technician.

As a result, police have charged a 28-year-old Brampton woman with:

· Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

· Stunt driving – Race a motor vehicle

A 90 day driver’s licence suspension was issued and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, located in Chatham on August 13, 2021.
