Police: Pot plants stolen, crash leads to impaired charges

Man Charged With Theft of Marijuana Plants

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, police received a call for a suspicious male walking in the area of McNaughton Avenue and Sandys Street in the city of Chatham.

Police located the male walking barefoot down the road with marijuana plants in hand.

The male was intoxicated by alcohol, was unable to care for himself and was subsequently arrested.

Police later discovered the plants were stolen from a nearby residence.

An 18-year-old Chatham was charged with; break, enter a place to commit indictable offence and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

He has been released from custody with a future court date of September 10th, 2021.

Wanted Man Runs From Police

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police located a man currently wanted for failing to attend court.

Police informed the man that he was under arrest and the man took off running.

A short foot pursuit ensued and the man was eventually arrested.

A 23-year-old Chatham man was additionally charged with; escaping lawful custody and resisting arrest. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collision Leads to Impaired Operation

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, Police responded to a 2-vehicle collision on Drury Line in Harwich Township.

One of the drivers was arrested for operating a conveyance while impaired by alcohol.

A 34 year-old Chatham man was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he blew more than double the legal limit.

He was released from custody with a future court date of August 23rd, 2021.
