A woodlot preservation report from Chatham-Kent staff is now available for the public to view.

“On April 26, 2021, Council approved a motion that introduced a temporary woodlot removal bylaw for 120 days,” Chatham-Kent officials said in a media release on Monday, August 16, 2021.

“The motion also directed administration to launch a full public engagement process to seek the public’s input to develop options to manage woodlots in Chatham-Kent.”

Chatham-Kent officials added: “A report from administration on council’s Woodlot Preservation Motion is scheduled for the August 23, 2021 council meeting immediately following the regularly scheduled planning meeting.”

C-K officials say “to provide the public with more time to review the report”, it is being released a few days in advance and it can be viewed, here.

“Given the amount of feedback already received over the past few months, we are asking that any new deputations be focused on the recommendations contained in the report and limited to two minutes in duration,” Chatham-Kent officials say.

“Formal deputations should be emailed directly to the Municipal Clerk’s office at CKclerk@chatham-kent.ca.”

C-K officials added should individuals feel they have additional information they would like to share, this should be done through the Council Contact Portal at: https://portal.chatham-kent.ca/forms/council/contact.

“A significant amount of feedback was received and a number of comments were made by respondents from across the political spectrum throughout the engagement process suggesting that additional consultations are warranted and should be pursued before a final decision is made,” Chatham-Kent officials say.
