The Walpole Island Police Service is teaming with the OPP to continue battling the community drug problem.
Chad Jacobs, the Chief of Police for the Walpole Island Police Service, issued a letter to the community on Thursday, August 26, 2021, which was shared on social media.
“As you are aware, in July 2021 the WIFN Chief and Council declared a state of emergency in response to the drug pandemic within our community,” Jacobs said in the letter.
“Our community has seen a rise illicit drug use and overdoses as a result of these activities. All of our families have experienced or have been affected by this in one way or another.”
Jacobs added: “In response to the state of emergency, the Walpole Island Police have sought the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police in helping to fight the drug problem here in our community. In saying that, I would like for you to be aware that there will be a greater presence of OPP within our territory. I would ask that you be understanding and cooperative with all Walpole Island Police and OPP officers during this time. We all care about our community, as you do, and we are here to do everything within our power to help fight the drugs that are trying to take over the lives of so many of our loved ones.”
Jacobs said, in addition, they are asking for community support and help in this effort.
“Policing a community cannot be done by police alone… we need your help,” Jacobs said.
“Working together is the only way for us to clean up our community’s drug problems and without the help of the public and our community members we will be faced with a losing battle. We cannot allow this to happen.”
Jacobs said they are asking that anyone with information about drug use or drug dealing to contact one of the following:
– Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
– Walpole Island Police Service 519-627-6011
– Lambton OPP — 1-519-882-1011
“Call and report any information you have whether you feel it is a little or a lot, it can all help,” Jacobs said.
“We need to stand up together against the drugs in our community, we need to protect our children and the generations to come.”
