Woman charged with break and enter

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, shortly after 9:30 a.m. police responded to a break and enter in progress into a trailer at Riverside Estates on Longwoods Road in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the homeowner awoke to find a woman, known to him, in his trailer.

The woman caused about $500 to his trailer by forcing her way through a window.

The woman assaulted the man and fled on foot.

Officers located the woman a short distance away and she was taken into custody.

The 37-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was charged with break and enter while committing assault.

She was released pending a future court date of October 8, 2021.

Domestic leads to weapon related offences

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the Chatham area, where a man damaged a mirror in the home during a verbal argument with his wife.

Officers located the man, in possession of a knife, a short distance away from the residence.

Officers requested the man drop the knife, however he failed to comply and conductive energy weapon was deployed.

At this time, the man threw the knife at police with the blade exposed, narrowly missing an officer’s face.

The 52-year-old man was taken into custody and charged with mischief under $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon.

He was released pending a future court date of September 29, 2021.

Report of suspicious person leads to drug charge

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Just before 9 p.m. last night, police responded to the report of a suspicious person around a business on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

Officers located the man and through investigation learned that he was in possession of over 400 grams of cannabis marijuana.

The cannabis marihuana was seized and the man was arrested.

The 33-year-old Chatham man was released pending a future court date to answer to the charge of being in possession of cannabis marijuana in a public place in excess of 30 grams, contrary to the Cannabis Act.

Traffic enforcement

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday, members of the Traffic Unit continued to monitor community safety zones around schools in Chatham-Kent.

19 tickets were issued to motorists for speeding and administrative offences in and around school zones.

A 27-year-old Chatham woman was charged with stunt driving as officers recorded her driving 93km/h in a 40km/h community safety zone near a school in Blenheim.

Her license was immediately suspended for seven days.

Her vehicle was also towed from the scene and impounded for 14 days.

She will be required to attend court on October 27, 2021.
