The inaugural Chatham-Kent Welcome Week is underway

The Chatham-Kent Local Immigration Partnership (CK LIP) is excited to celebrate the inaugural Chatham-Kent Welcome Week, happening September 10–19, 2021.

Municipal officials say Chatham-Kent Welcome Week provides opportunities to celebrate the contributions of immigrant newcomers, to connect them to services in Chatham-Kent, to promote diversity in our community, and to continue to showcase why Chatham-Kent was designated as Canada’s First Welcoming Community.

Communities across the country will be celebrating Welcome Week as it is a national initiative by the Government of Canada.

This initiative aims to bring together new and long-time residents to build strong connections and to reaffirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places in achieving collective prosperity.

“CK LIP consists of 40 community organizations working collectively to make our community welcoming and we are delighted to have this opportunity to support a national initiative at a local level,” stated Tracy Callaghan, co-chair of the Chatham-Kent Local Immigration Partnership, in a media release.

Jason Stubitz, Project Coordinator of the CK LIP added: “The CK LIP has developed a CK Welcome Week webpage to highlight activities that are taking place across the community. We hope that everyone in Chatham-Kent is able to celebrate CK Welcome Week in some way and participate in events happening over the course of the week.”
