Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault has released the estimated number of electors who voted on the four advance polling days in the election.

Advance polls were open from Friday, September 10, 2021, to Monday, September 13, 2021.

According to the preliminary figures, some 5,780,000 electors voted at the advance polls in this general election, Elections Canada officials say.

This is a 18.46% increase from the 4,879,312 electors who voted in advance in the 2019 general election.

It should be noted that these are estimates, as some polls may not have reported yet, Elections Canada officials say.

“I want to thank the electors who took advantage of advance polls for their patience and their help in making this a safe experience for everyone. I also want to thank the tens of thousands of election workers for making this possible,” Perrault said in a media release.

“Canadians still have the opportunity to contribute to this great democratic exercise by voting on election day or by returning their special ballot before the September 20 deadline.”

A breakdown of the estimated number of electors who voted at the advance polls for all 338 electoral districts is being calculated and will soon be available on elections.ca.

To vote, electors must prove their identity and address, Elections Canada officials say.

On election day, electors can expect to see the following health and safety measures at polling places:

– Hand sanitizing stations at entrances and exits

– Non-medical masks available

– Poll workers wearing non-medical masks

– Physical distancing and directional signage

– Frequent cleaning of work stations, door handles and other high-touch surfaces

To provide a safe environment for electors and election workers, Elections Canada strongly encourages electors to wear a mask, even in places where a province, territory or region does not require them, Elections Canada officials say.

“We will require electors to wear masks where they are required by the province, territory or region or by the landlord leasing the space to Elections Canada,” Elections Canada officials say.

Electors who cannot wear a mask for medical reasons will not be required to wear one.

Electors who are self-isolating or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, who have been in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case or who do not want to wear a mask where one is required should apply to vote by mail.
