Lianne Rood ‘humbled’ after decisive re-election nod in LKM

Newly re-elected MP Lianne Rood says she is “humbled” after a landslide victory in Monday’s federal election.

“I would like to thank the voters of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex for once again entrusting me with the privilege of representing you in the House of Commons,” Rood said on social media.

“I am humbled and honoured by your decisive display of confidence in me. I will never take your support for granted, and will continue fighting hard on your behalf for a better future.”

Rood said she is grateful to their team “who worked tirelessly to help share our positive Conservative message directly with voters.

“Thank you to all the Elections Canada personnel for your commitment to a fair and orderly election, and to all the candidates who put their names on the ballot. My staff and I are looking forward to continue serving #LKM’s constituents,” Rood added.

Elections Canada officials say Rood captured 28,539 votes, good for 48.7% of the total votes cast.

This total includes results from 244 of 245 polls or 99.59% of the total polls.

Liberal candidate Sudit Ranade finished a distant second in the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex race, gathering 12,022 votes or 20.5%.

New Democratic Party candidate Jason Henry finished third with 10,675 votes or 18.2%.

People’s Party candidate Kevin Mitchell finished in fourth with 6,392 votes or 10.9%.

Green Party candidate Jeremy Hull rounded out the pack with 994 votes or 1.7%.

Election Canada officials say the voter turnout in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex had 58,622 of 91,287 registered electors casting a vote or 64.22%.

Officials say these numbers do not include electors who registered on election day.

In Chatham-Kent-Leamington, incumbent MP and Conservative candidate Dave Epp won re-election with 21,605 votes or 40.8.%

Liberal candidate Greg Hetherington finished second with 15,054 votes or 28.4%, NDP candidate Dan Gelinas was third 7,761 votes or 14.6%, PPC candidate Liz Vallee was fourth with 7,737 votes or 14.6% and coming in fifth was Green Party candidate Mark Vercouteren with 820 votes or 1.5%.

Election Canada officials say these numbers are from 269 of 272 polls.

Voter turnout in Chatham-Kent-Leamington was at 61.16%, as 52,977 of 86,615 registered electors went to the polls to vote.

Overall, Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada are set to form another minority government, after capturing 158 seats in the House of Commons. The Conservatives won 119 seats, the Bloc 34, NDP 25 and the Green Party with two.
