Active COVID-19 case count at 107, outbreaks at DACS & LKCS in Dresden

Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit officials updated their ā€˜current statusā€™ page of their website on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

The active COVID-19 case count has dropped to 107, four less than on Tuesday.

Public health officials say 70.9% of the active cases are unvaccinated, 9.7% are unknown, 9.2% are fully vaccinated, 8.7% are partially vaccinated and 1.8% are not yet protected. These figures are as of September 18, 2021, public health officials say.

A total of 13 people with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent are hospitalized, three less than on Tuesday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases is 2,352 across Chatham-Kent, 16 more than on Tuesday.

A total of 2,228 cases have been resolved.

A total of 62 active cases are linked to close contact, 19 cases are unknown, 15 cases are outbreak related and 11 cases have information pending.

Public health officials say there are four current outbreak across Chatham-Kent.

A school outbreak was declared at Lambton-Kent Composite School in Dresden on September 21, 2021. This outbreak involves two total cases, one student and one staff member, public school board officials say.

A school outbreak was declared at Dresden Area Central School on September 18, 2021. This outbreak involves two total cases, both involving students, school board officials say.

An outbreak at an un-named workplace was declared on September 17, 2021 and involves three cases.

An outbreak at Praise Fellowship Church, located at 165 Park Avenue East in Chatham, remains active and involves 24 cases. This outbreak was first declared on September 10, 2021.

An outbreak at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s Rehabilitation/Stroke Unit was declared over on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 and involved three cases.

“Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is pleased to share that the COVID-19 outbreak declared on the Rehabilitation/Stroke Unit at the Chatham Site on September 11, 2021 has been declared over by CK Public Health,” hospital officials said in a media release.

CKHA currently has 13 COVID-19 positive inpatients, hospital officials added.

“CKHA would like to thank CK Public Health for their guidance and support during this outbreak, and the hospitalā€™s staff and physicians for their continued commitment to providing safe, high quality care under these difficult circumstances,” hospital officials say.

“Infection Prevention and Control measures will remain in place across the organization and CKHA will continue to review and monitor the impact of the pandemic on its operations. CKHAā€™s Essential Visitor and Care Partner Access policy remains in Phase 3 ā€œGreen.ā€ In this phase, most inpatients are permitted two consistent essential care partners.”

CKHA officials added: “Questions or concerns about visitor restrictions can be directed to the primary nurse and/or Patient Relations.”

CK Public Health officials say the Delta variant continues to be the predominant circulating variant of concern in Chatham-Kent and Ontario.

“The majority of current cases among people living in CK have initial mutation screening results in line with the Delta variant,” public health officials added.

Public health officials say a total of 142,547 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 75,845 people 12+ have received at least one dose and 69,532 people 12+ have received two doses.

CK Public Health officials say there is a busy week of COVID-19 vaccine clinics upcoming:

– Wednesday: Lambton-Kent Composite School 3-7pm

– Thursday: Chatham-Kent Secondary School 3-7pm

– Friday: Wallaceburg District Secondary School 4-7pm

– Saturday: John D. Bradley Centre 9-3pm

“Students and family members for school clinics open at 2:30 (except for WDSS which is open from 2-4pm) and open to the public at 3pm (WDSS at 4pm),” public health officials say.

All clinics are using Pfizer, while the Bradley clinic will also have Moderna.

Walk-ins are permitted, up until half an hour before clinics close or book an appointment at www.GetYourShotCK.ca.

Public health officials say the Mobile Vaccination Team are back on the road this week, as well:

– Wednesday: Conagra in Dresden 9-2pm / Aarkel in Wallaceburg 3-7pm

– Thursday: Hope Haven in Chatham 10-2pm

– Sunday: Tecumseh “Art in the Park” 11-4pm

A total of 132,466 tests for the virus have been completed to date.

Since the pandemic began in March of 2020, a total of 17 people from Chatham-Kent have died from COVID-19.
