19th & 20th COVID-19 deaths confirmed in Chatham-Kent, 105 active cases

The 19th and 20th COVID-19 deaths in Chatham-Kent have been confirmed by public health officials.

CK Public Health officials told the Sydenham Current the 19th death announced earlier this week was a woman in her 80’s, while the 20th death announced on Thursday was a woman in her 50’s.

Public health officials say both women were unvaccinated.

Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit officials updated their ‘current status’ page of their website on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

The active COVID-19 case count has dropped to 105, five less than on Wednesday.

Public health officials say 74.1% of the active cases are unvaccinated, 10.1% are fully vaccinated, 8.6% are partially vaccinated, 5.4% are unknown and 1.7% are not yet protected. These figures are as of September 25, 2021, public health officials say.

A total of six people with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent are hospitalized.

The total number of COVID-19 cases is 2,452 across Chatham-Kent, 10 more than on Wednesday.

A total of 2,327 cases have been resolved.

A total of 61 active cases are linked to close contact, 20 cases are unknown, 18 cases are outbreak related and six cases have information pending.

Public health officials say there are six current outbreaks across Chatham-Kent:

– An outbreak at Eben-Ezer Christian School in Chatham remains active and involves five total cases.

– An outbreak at McNaughton Area Public School in Chatham remains active and involves five total cases.

– An outbreak at Copper Terrace, a long-term care home in Chatham, remains active and involves four active cases.

– An outbreak at Tilbury District High School remains active and involves two cases.

– A school outbreak at Lambton-Kent Composite School in Dresden remains active and involves five total cases.

– An outbreak at Praise Fellowship Church, located at 165 Park Avenue East in Chatham, remains active and involves 24 cases.

CK Public Health officials say the Delta variant continues to be the predominant circulating variant of concern in Chatham-Kent and Ontario.

“The majority of current cases among people living in CK have initial mutation screening results in line with the Delta variant,” public health officials added.

Public health officials say a total of 145,063 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 76,990 people 12+ have received at least one dose and 70,956 people 12+ have received two doses.

CK Public Health officials say several vaccine clinics are scheduled in Chatham in the first part of October:

A total of 134,704 tests for the virus have been completed to date.
