Long weekend safety initiative

Lambton OPP officials allege: Starting on October 8, 2021, members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be participating in “Operation Impact”, a traffic safety initiative implemented Province-wide, to address issues of speed, seatbelt use, impaired driving and other criminal code driving offences.

Officers will be actively patrolling local roadways, in hopes to reduce collisions as a result of excessive speed, lack of seatbelt use or impaired driving. Local residents should expect to see an increased police presence on roadways and in communities during this time.

The initiative runs from 12 a.m. on October 8 to 11:59 p.m. on October 11.

Suspicious vehicle

Lambton OPP officials allege: On September 29, 2021 at 7:20 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted regarding a suspicious vehicle in the 800 block of Johnston Road.

Officers located the vehicle and, while interacting with the driver, formed grounds to believe the vehicle had been stolen. The driver was subsequently taken into custody.

A 30-yeas-old Dawn-Euphemia man, has been charged with the following:

– Possession of property obtained by Crime, over $5000,

– Mischief under $5000,

– Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose,

– Resist Peace Officer,

– Failure to comply with release order (two counts) and,

– Fail to comply with Probation Order (two counts).

The accused has been held in custody following a bail hearing.

Police locate stationary vehicle

Lambton OPP officials allege: On September 26, 2021 at 9:10 a.m., members of the Walpole Island Police Service (WIPS) observed a stationary vehicle in the middle of Tecumseh Road.

Upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage, at which time a roadside screening device was administered.

The driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment where they provided two samples over the legal limit.

A 24-years-old Windsor resident has been charged with the following:

– Operation While Impaired and,

– Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus).

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 8, 2021.

Breach in Alvinston

Lambton OPP officials allege: On September 25, 2021 at 1:30 a.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic control on Nauvoo Road.

Officers observed a vehicle pass their location at a high rate of speed, despite having their emergency lights activated.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the driver had consumed an alcoholic beverage, at which time a roadside screening device was administered.

The driver was arrested for breaching conditions of their probation.

A 30-year-old Corunna man, has been charged with the following:

– Fail to Comply with Probation Order,

– Operation While prohibited under the Criminal Code and,

– Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia on November 22, 2021.

Impaired driving

Lambton OPP officials allege: On September 26, 2021 at 8 p.m., members of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified by members of the public of a two-vehicle collision on Petrolia Line in St. Clair Township.

One of the involved vehicles fled the scene.

Officers located the vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, it became apparent the individual was displaying signs of impairment.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP detachment where they provided two samples of breath above the legal limit.

A 48-year-old Sarnia man, has been charged with the following:

– Operation While Impaired,

– Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) and,

– Failing to remain at the scene of a collision

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice-Sarnia on October 25, 2021.
