Operation Impact 2021: Be a Hero. Aim for Zero.
Today marks the beginning of Operation Impact 2021, a national public awareness campaign aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world. By promoting safe driving behaviours, we hope to help prevent collisions, save lives, and reduce injuries on our roads.
From now until Thanksgiving Monday, police across the country will be focused on behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk: impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs or fatigue, as well as aggressive driving, distracted driving, and driving without a seat belt.
Most collisions are not ‘accidents’, they are generally the direct result of a conscious decision an individual driver has made. If there were zero problematic driving behaviours at the wheel, we could expect zero collisions, zero injuries and zero deaths on our roads. So this year, we are asking all drivers to Be a hero. Aim for zero.
CKPS Traffic Sgt Jim Lynds adds, “Road safety is literally in your hands. This holiday weekend, let’s aim for zero incidents of impaired driving, distracted driving and aggressive driving. Don’t let the impact of your decisions be a collision on our roads.”
Operation Impact is organized by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, under the leadership of the CACP Traffic Safety Committee, in support of Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2025
Traffic enforcement
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday morning, members of the Traffic Unit and Community Patrol conducted traffic enforcement on Longwoods Road, Fairview Line and McNaughton Avenue West in Chatham.
Eight motorists were stopped and charged with speeding.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind all drivers that officers will be out in full force this holiday weekend as part of ‘Operation Impact’.
Please watch your speed, wear your seat belt, put your phone down and don’t drive while impaired.
Let’s make this a safe Thanksgiving for everyone travelling through our community.
