Disturbance leads to arrest
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night around 9 p.m. police responded to a disturbance at a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
Through investigation, police learned that when the man was asked to leave, he kicked the front doors causing the glass to shatter.
The man then picked up a jagged shard of glass and returned into the business and approached an employee in a threatening manner while yelling obscenities.
A local citizen intervened and escorted the man outside to await police arrival.
A 29-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000, assault with a weapon and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He was released pending a future court date of December 8, 2021.
Man charged with theft
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Around 3 a.m. this morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious person on Gladstone Avenue in Chatham.
Through investigation, police learned that the man entered a vehicle and stole personal identification and bank cards.
The man used the debit card at various gas stations and convenience stores.
With the assistance of video surveillance, police identified the man responsible and he was located within the hour walking on St. Clair Street.
The 28-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested and upon being searched was found in possession of the victim’s identification, bank cards and lottery tickets purchased with the stolen debit card.
He has been charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, fraud under $5,000 and failing to comply with his release conditions.
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Stolen trucks in Thamesville
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime early this morning, unknown suspects stole a red 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck from a residence on Wallace Street.
The truck was last seen with Ontario license plates AB25 838.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime late last night or early this morning, unknown suspects stole a 2000 grey GMC Sierra pick-up truck from a residence on Industrial Road.
The truck was last seen with Ontario license plates BN44 585.

Criminals look for easy opportunities. This ‘9pm Routine’ may help prevent crimes of opportunity.
Every night at 9 p.m. homeowners are encouraged to ensure the following checklist is complete:
– Remove valuables and garage door opener from vehicles
– Lock vehicles
– Close overhead garage door
– Lock door between garage and house
– Close and lock all external doors
– Ensure windows are closed and locked
– Turn on an exterior light
