An investigation has been launched after a fire at 40 Grey Street in Chatham early Saturday morning, November 20, 2021.
“Firefighters from Stations #1 and #2 – Chatham were dispatched to a working structure fire at 40 Gray Street just before 12 a.m. this morning,” fire officials said in a media release.
“Upon arrival, they were met with heavy smoke and flames visible from the multi-unit dwelling. The crews initiated an offensive attack but were met with unstable conditions within the units. The crews pulled back and a defensive strategy was taken.”
Fire officials added: “Due to the numerous additions to this budling, the fire became deep-seated within the structure which made extinguishment difficult.”
Fire officials say crews were set to remain on scene throughout the night to cool hot spots within the building.
There were no injuries reported and damage is estimated at $300,000.
The cause is under investigation by the CK Fire prevention team.
