Fraud warning issued regarding Bitcoin

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday, police responded to a call of fraud, relating to the crypto currency Bitcoin.

A local woman received a call from suspects claiming to be from Canada Border Patrol.

She withdrew $18,500 and deposited the funds in a local Bitcoin machine as the fraudsters instructed.

The Chatham-Kent Police would like to remind citizens that digital currency such as Bitcoin is not legal currency.

You cannot pay a tax bill with Bitcoin.

No government, agency will ever ask you for funds in any digital currency.

This includes Canada Revenue Agency and Canada Border Patrol.
