Strong winds expected, special weather statement issued in Chatham-Kent

A special weather statement has been issued by Environment Canada in Chatham-Kent, as strong wind is expected tonight through Monday evening.

Forecasters say hazards, include:

– Strong wind with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h.

– Heavy rain. Local rainfall amounts 20 to 30 mm, overnight through Monday evening.

“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees,” forecasters say

“Power outages are possible.”

Forecasters added: “A low pressure system will track east across the Great Lakes today through Monday. Heavy rain and strong southerly winds are expected to develop tonight with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h possible. The rain is expected to end and the wind will ease briefly Monday morning. However, the wind is expected to strengthen once again Monday afternoon and become westerly behind a passing cold front. Gusts of 70 to 90 km/h are expected for Monday afternoon as well and perhaps reaching near 100 km/h at times mainly along the shore of Lake Erie.”
