Chatham-Kent’s 25th COVID-19 death confirmed

Chatham-Kent’s 25th COVID-19 death has been confirmed.

Jeff Moco, a spokesperson for CK Public Health, told the Sydenham Current the death was a 90-year-old man, who was fully vaccinated.

Moco said the man died at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.

Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit officials also updated the ‘current status’ page of their website on Thursday, December 9, 2021.

The active COVID-19 case count rose to 149, three more than on Wednesday.

A total of 10 people with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent are hospitalized, three less than on Wednesday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases is 3,140 across Chatham-Kent, 26 more than on Wednesday.

A total of 2,966 cases have been resolved.

A total of 54 active cases are linked to close contact, 40 cases have information pending, 29 cases are outbreak related, 25 cases are unknown and one is linked to travel.

Public health officials say eight outbreaks are active across Chatham-Kent:

– An outbreak at Tilbury Area Public School, declared on December 8, 2021, involves three cases.

– An outbreak at Elementary School Catholic Saint-Marie in Chatham, declared on December 6, 2021, involves four cases.

– An outbreak at a private event, declared on December 2, 2021, involves 15 cases.

– An outbreak at Harwich Raleigh Public School in Blenheim, declared on December 2, 2021, involves three cases.

– An outbreak at an un-named manufacturing workplace, declared on December 2, 2021, involves eight cases.

– An outbreak at St. Anne Catholic School in Blenheim, declared on December 2, 2021, involves two cases.

– An outbreak at Dresden Area Central School, declared on November 30, 2021, involves three cases.

– An outbreak at an un-named place of worship, declared on November 15, 2021, involves 13 cases.

CK Public Health officials say the Delta variant continues to be the predominant circulating variant of concern in Chatham-Kent and Ontario.

“The majority of current cases among people living in CK have initial mutation screening results in line with the Delta variant,” public health officials added.

Public health officials say a total of 162,404 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 82,082 people 5+ have received at least one dose and 77,988 people 5+ have received two doses.
