Former Dresden Kings goalie starting for Team Canada at World Juniors

Former Dresden Kings goaltender Brett Brochu is set to get the starting nod for Team Canada on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 against Team Austria at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship.

This will be Canada’s second game in the preliminary round of the tournament in Edmonton, Alberta, after beating the Czech squad 6-3 on Boxing Day.

Puck drops at 7 p.m. Eastern time.

The 19-year-old Belle River native, who plays goalie for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, was announced as the starter by Team Canada head coach Dave Cameron, according to media reports.

Brochu played in 38 regular season games with the Dresden Kings back in the 2018/2019 season.

He logged a league high 27 wins that season, a league high 2,168 minutes of action, a 2.46 goals against average and a 27-11-0 record.

In 11 playoff games for the Kings, Brochu has a 2.10 goals against average in 11 playoff games, notching two shutouts and a 6-5 record for Dresden.

In 22 games for the Knights this season, Brochu has a 2.48 goals against average in 22 games, a 16-6 record and has notched one shutout.

Brochu is eligible for the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
