Three more COVID-19 deaths, 24 hospitalized, active cases at 347 in Chatham-Kent

Three new COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Chatham-Kent, bringing the total to 30 since the pandemic began.

Jeff Moco, a spokesperson for CK Public Health, told the Sydenham Current the three deaths were a man in his 70s, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 80s.

Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit officials updated the ‘current status’ page of their website on Monday, January 3, 2022.

The active COVID-19 case count rose to 347, five more than the last update on Thursday.

A total of 24 people with COVID-19 from Chatham-Kent are hospitalized, 10 more than the last update.

The total number of COVID-19 cases is 3,999 across Chatham-Kent, 263 more than on Thursday.

A total of 3,622 cases have been resolved, 255 more than on Thursday.

A total of 297 of the active cases have information pending, 27 cases are unknown, 18 are linked to close contact and five cases are outbreak related.

Public health officials say three outbreaks are active across Chatham-Kent:

– An outbreak at Tilbury Manor Nursing Home, declared on January 2, 2022, involves two cases.

– An outbreak at Riverview Gardens in Chatham, declared on December 21, 2021, involves two cases.

– An outbreak at an un-named manufacturing workplace, declared on December 2, 2021, involves 18 cases.

CK Public Health officials say the Delta variant continues to be the predominant circulating variant of concern in Chatham-Kent.

However, public health officials say the first initial screening results indicating suspect Omicron variant have been received recently.

“Not all specimens can be screened and only a sample of specimens will undergo further sequencing, therefore variant lineage may be presumed based on the initial screening results,” CK Public Health officials say.

Public health officials say a total of 185,374 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 83,660 people 5+ have received at least one dose and 78,861 people 5+ have received two doses.

Premier Doug Ford was set to be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health, and Matt Anderson, CEO of Ontario Health, to make an announcement on Monday.
