Man charged with failing to comply

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On October 3, 2021 a man was released from custody with several conditions.

One of those conditions stated that he was not to communicate with a specific Thamesville woman.

Yesterday, police learned that the man had contacted the woman in December on two separate occasions via email and Facebook Messenger.

The 32-year-old Bothwell man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was released pending a future court date of February 1, 2022.

Man charged with impaired driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, just before 7 p.m. police received a 911 call regarding a possible impaired driver near the intersection of Sandy Street and Grand Avenue in Chatham following a minor collision.

An officer on general patrol located the vehicle in the area of Lacroix Street and King Street West as the driver was slumped over at the wheel while stopped at a red light.

The officer was able to reach through an open window to place the vehicle in park as it was still in gear.

Through investigation, the officer believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.

The man was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 43-year-old Chatham man has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

He was released pending a future court date of January 19, 2022.

Theft of trailer in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between January 2 and January 4 unknown suspects stole an enclosed silver toy hauler from Storey’s Auto Place on Richmond Street.

The trailer was unplated.

Theft from construction site in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Sometime between December 30, 2021 and January 4, 2022 unknown suspects forced their way into a school under construction on McNaughton Avenue.

Once inside, the suspects stole several rolls of copper wiring, a Ridgid dry vacuum, Stanley socket set and Bosch grinder.

Total value of the theft has been estimated at approximately $10,000.

Recovered stolen truck

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: As previously reported, sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, unknown suspects stole a black 2007 Ford F-150 pick-up truck from a residence on John Park Line in Wallaceburg.

Yesterday afternoon, the stolen truck was recovered by Lambton OPP in their jurisdiction.

Stolen refrigerator recovered

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: As previously reported, sometime between December 30, 2021 and January 2, 2022 unknown suspects entered a warehouse at the Speed-D-Mart car wash on Bloomfield Road and stole a refrigerator valued at $2,000.

Yesterday afternoon, the stolen refrigerator was located at a residence in Chatham and returned to its rightful owner.

Police continue to investigate.

Traffic enforcement

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On Monday, an officer with the Traffic Unit stopped to check on the well-being of a motorist who had pulled over to use his cell phone on Port Road.

Through investigation, the officer learned that the 17-year-old Merlin teen was a G1 driver and not accompanied by a licensed driver.

The teen was charged with being a G1 driver unaccompanied by a qualified driver and his mother was charged with permitting a novice driver to drive in contravention of a condition or restriction.

The Chatham-Kent Police would like to remind G1 drivers that by law, you must:

– Maintain a zero blood alcohol level

– Make sure every passenger with you wears a properly working seatbelt

– Not drive between midnight and 5 a.m.

– Not drive on 400-series highways or high-speed expressways (e.g., 401, Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), Gardiner Expressway)

– Drive with a fully licensed driver who has:

– At least four years of driving experience

– A blood alcohol level of less than .05 (if this person is 21 and under, their blood alcohol level should be zero)

– The driver accompanying you must be the only other person in the front seat.

– If you are driving with a driver instructor certified in Ontario, you can drive on any road.
