32nd & 33rd COVID-19 deaths reported in Chatham-Kent

The 32nd and 33rd COVID-19 deaths has been reported in Chatham-Kent.

Jeff Moco, a spokesperson for the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit, told the Sydenham Current the most recent deaths were two men, one was in his 70s and the other in his 80s.

Moco said both men died at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Public health officials say 19 Chatham-Kent residents are currently hospitalized for COVID-19 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, eight less than on Friday.

363 new COVID-19 cases have been reported since Friday, increasing the total number of cases to 4,739 since the pandemic began.

Public health officials say the current seven day rolling average case count (average number per day) sits at 105.

“Confirmed cases underestimate the true number of COVID-19 infections in Chatham-Kent,” public health officials added.

“Number reported since December 31, 2021 should be interpreted with caution and only capture high risk people currently eligible for PCR testing.”

CK Public Health officials say the first initial screening results, indicating suspect Omicron variant, have been received recently, adding they can assume Omicron to be the predominant circulating variant of concern in Chatham-Kent.

Public health officials say six outbreaks are active across Chatham-Kent:

– An outbreak at an un-named group home, declared on January 7, 2022, involves seven cases.

– An outbreak at St. Angela’s Meadow Retirement Lodge in Chatham, declared on January 4, 2022, involves three cases.

– An outbreak at Wallaceburg Retirement Residence, declared on January 4, 2022, involves two cases.

– An outbreak at Hudson Manor in Tilbury, declared on January 3, 2022, involves five cases.

– An outbreak at Tilbury Manor Nursing Home, declared on January 2, 2022, involves four cases.

– An outbreak at Riverview Gardens in Chatham, declared on December 21, 2021, involves five cases.

Public health officials say a total of 193,618 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 84,020 people 5+ have received at least one dose, 79,125 people 5+ have received two doses and 33,849 5+ have received three doses.
