Man charged with break and enter

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday, police responded to a break and enter at an apartment building on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that an unknown man had entered two apartments while the owners were home, while attempting to forcibly enter another.

The man was identified and located a short distance away.

Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was found to be in possession of a small screwdriver and metal pick.

The 38-year-old Chatham man has been charged with being in possession of break and enter tools and three counts of break and enter.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man charged with assault

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that a verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation.

The 38-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement.

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Pair charged with theft

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night around 5 p.m. police responded to a theft from vehicle in a parking lot in Chatham.

Through investigation, police identified the man and woman responsible.

Shortly after 9 p.m. police located the pair on Vanier Drive and they were arrested.

A 43-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both of Chatham-Kent, were charged with theft under $5,000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

There were both released pending a future court date of February 8, 2022.

Motor vehicle collision

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Ridge Line between Harwich Road and Front Line.

No one was injured.

Total damage was estimated at $7,000.

A 24-year-old Wardsville man was charged with careless driving.
