Change your world

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

It was English actor and comedian, Paul Shane Spear, who once said, “As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person.”

If it wasn’t apparent before the pandemic, it sure is now, that there are many hurting people in this world.

We also do not need to travel far and wide to see those people as we have many right here in our own communities.

The enormity of the need can become so overwhelming that it immobilizes us and we end up doing nothing.

It could be that we are under the impression that our small, seemingly insignificant efforts will not count for much so we disregard making a start.

But little is much if God is in it.

When faced with a very large crowd of hungry people, five thousand men besides women and children, it was a little boy’s lunch that started the miracle.

Andrew, one of Jesus’ apostles, said to Jesus in John 6:9: “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two fish, but how far will they go among so many?”

In the end, after everyone had eaten as much as they wanted, there were 12 baskets of leftovers, one hefty doggie bag for each of Jesus’ 12 apostles!

About a month before Christmas a young boy in my church came up to me after the service and handed me a Christmas card.

Inside he had crudely taped 60 cents, two quarters and a dime, and then proceeded to tell me that he wanted me to give this to someone in need.

That small donation set off a maelstrom of interest that resulted in almost $2,000 dollars in donations and dozens of winter clothing items that went to a ministry that helps homeless people.

My friend, you have something in you or around you that can help someone in need.

Find out what that is and start right there, and then pray and ask the Lord to multiply your efforts.

You may not be able to change the world, but you can change it for one person – and God can take it from there!
