The photo above shows the ferry at Walpole Island, which was recently posted by the Sombra Museum on social media.

“The Walpole Island ferry is a part of Walpole Island’s large recreation and tourism industry. Here is a look at the ferry from the days of horse and buggies! The tribes of Walpole island are the Ojibway, Pottawatomi and Ottawa. Having a common heritage they formed the Three Fires Confederacy – a political and cultural compact. The Island is home to a unique ecosystem including 6,900 hectares of the most diverse wetlands in all of the Great Lakes Basin. Walpole Island consists of six islands with Walpole being the largest.
