One person was rescued on the ice on the Syne River in Wallaceburg on Sunday afternoon, January 30, 2022.
“Station #3 – Wallaceburg was dispatched just before 1 p.m. this afternoon to rescue one person in distress on the ice of the Syne River,” Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services officials tweeted.
“The person was close to open water and firefighters bought her to shore safely.”
Fire officials added: “CK Fire is reminding residents no ice is considered 100% safe. Ice thickness is NOT consistent, especially with changing weather conditions. Slippery and unstable banks and extremely cold-water temperatures can also lead to dangerous conditions close to any body of water.”
