Catholic School Board receives update on Menstrual Equity Program

The Board of Trustees has received an update on St. Clair Catholic’s Menstrual Equity Program, which was launched in September 2019.

“Menstrual equity is an issue that faces students both locally and around the world,” stated Amy Janssens, Associate Director – Corporate Services and Treasurer, in a media release.

“The Board’s Menstrual Equity Program is designed to erase barriers for students to access products.”

“Student voice is also an important component to our program,” addeds Lisa Demers, Superintendent of Education, in a media release.

“We will gather student feedback to ensure that the strategies we put in place are meeting student needs.”

In September 2019, the Board purchased menstrual products were made available in school administration and guidance offices.

In April 2022, the Board will provide products in dispensers marked ‘free’ in all female and universal/accessible washrooms.

Posters and stickers advising of the availability of the products will also be displayed in all schools and Board locations.

The Ontario Ministry of Education has accepted a three-year donation of menstrual products from Shoppers Drug Mart Incorporated.

As products arrive, they will be distributed to all Board locations.

Student feedback will be gathered through school wellness committees and student leadership teams, throughout the 2022-2023 school year.
