Letter: Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre at a ‘critical juncture’, seeking volunteers

The Board of Directors of the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre is at a critical juncture, and we believe that you need to be advised of what is transpiring.

The number of people who are volunteering has been steadily declining and without support from our membership and community there will not be a full slate of officers to present at the next Annual General Meeting.

This AGM is scheduled for June 29, 2022.

Repeated attempts to recruit new members to the Board have been unsuccessful and several of the current Board members will term out in June.

What this means to you is that without adequate Board representation the WAAC will be unable to constitute a legal quorum.

According to WAAC Bylaws we will be unable to continue to operate.

What we are doing with the support of Councilors Carmen McGregor and Aaron Hall is embarking on a public relations blitz within our community to raise awareness of the current situation.

Unless things change, the most likely scenario leaves us with no other option than to transfer governance of the WAAC to the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

This would take all control of the WAAC out of the hands of our community.

Neither the Board of Directors nor, we believe, the citizens of Wallaceburg want this scenario to come to pass.

We need your help.

It has been clearly evident in the past, that when programs and services in Wallaceburg are at risk, you step up!

It’s the only way out of our current dilemma.

It is not too late for you to become involved.

We urge you, or anyone you know who may be interested in volunteering, to consider letting your name stand for nomination.

Please contact Victoria Stewart, our Administrative Co-Ordinator, at 519-627-6224 if you would like more information.

The Centre has been such an integral part of the lives of so many older adults in our community for decades.

We are hopeful that whatever happens moving forward, that the joy it brings to so many, will continue for many more.

It’s up to you!

Board of Directors, Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre
