The Edmonton Oilers have announced the signing of Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith to a new two-year, two-way NHL contract starting in 2022-23.
Griffith, 29, leads the Bakersfield Condors, Edmonton’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, in scoring this season and is tied for fourth in the AHL scoring race, Condors officials say.
Now in his second season with the Condors, Griffith has 52 points (20 goals and 32 assists) in 40 games.
“One of the most prolific scorers in the AHL in the last decade, the 29-year old has amassed 421 points (148 goals and 273 assist) in 455 career AHL games,” Condors officials said in a media release.
He has played 81 NHL games and has 19 points (8 goals and 11 assists) with the Oilers, Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres, Oilers officials say.
Griffith made his Edmonton debut on December 18 in Seattle, a 5-3 road win over the Kraken, during which he played 5:37 minutes and registered a +1 plus-minus rating.
In January, the Wallaceburg, Ontario native was named the AHL’s Player of the Month.
The Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association and the Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse Association were quick to congratulate Griffith on social media.
“Congratulations to WMHA product and Wallaceburg’s own Seth Griffith who signed a new deal with the Edmonton Oilers,” Wallaceburg Minor Hockey officials posted.
“Way to go Seth!”
Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse Association officials added: “Former Griffin, Seth Griffith, signs new deal with the Edmonton Oilers. Congrats Seth, WLMA is very proud of you.”
