Public input sought for new pickleball courts in Wallaceburg, Dresden & Chatham

Chatham-Kent will be home to 10 new pickleball courts within the next year and the Municipality is looking for public input as to the best locations for the facilities.

In January, the Municipality learned that its application for Community Building Grant Fund through the Ontario Trillium Foundation had been approved.

The $430,000 grant will cover 80 per cent of the project costs.

The grant requires the project be completed on municipal land and that the construction be a new build.

Existing pickleball courts or tennis courts are not eligible projects.

The courts can be installed as early as spring/summer 2022 with a deadline of completion in spring/summer 2023.

Officials have identified Ellis Park in Chatham as the site of six courts, Jaycee Park in Wallaceburg as the location for two courts and Jackson Park in Dresden as the new home of two courts.

The locations were selected on the basis of community need, current recreational assets in communities, existence of pickleball groups for organized play, and appropriate space, accessibility and parking.

Individuals who want to provide feedback can take a short survey at https://www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/pickleball-court-locations

The survey is live now and will remain open until April 18.
