8th person charged in connection with Walpole Island murder

Lambton OPP officials allege: An eighth person has now been charged in connection with a homicide on Walpole Island First Nation.

On March 26, 2022, officers from the Lambton County Crime Unit attended the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and took an individual into custody on the strength of a warrant.

Turuk Thomas, 20-years-old of Kitchener, has been charged with First Degree Murder, pursuant to section 235 of the Criminal Code.

The accused has been held in custody following a bail hearing on March 27, 2022.

On March 17, 2021, the remains of Oyebode Oyenuga were found on Walpole Island First Nation.

He had been reported missing to the Windsor Police Service in February of 2021.

The investigation continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
