CK Public Health makes changes to COVID-19 reporting

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit is making changes to their COVID-19 reporting.

CK Public Health officials say as of the week of May 1 the Chatham-Kent COVID-19 Surveillance Report will be updated once per week on Wednesdays by 11 a.m.

“This means that there will no longer be a Monday or Friday update to the case and outbreak data,” public health officials said in a media release.

“The Chatham-Kent COVID-19 Surveillance Report will shift to capturing the most recent surveillance week when reporting on COVID cases and outbreaks (similar to how the vaccination data has been updated). This means that every Wednesday, CK Public Health will be reporting all COVID-19 data from the most recent Sunday to Saturday period, and reflecting change since the previous surveillance week.”

CK Public Health officials say they have continued to see increased COVID activity in Chatham-Kent.

“Levels should start to decrease in coming weeks, as CK has lagged behind the overall provincial trend,” public health officials say.

“Please note that lab-confirmed cases are still an underestimate of the true level of infection in Chatham-Kent, and monitoring trends over time across all sources of surveillance data continues to be an important focus through this wave. CK Public Health will continue to keep the media and public updated of important trends and aware of any increased local risk through our various communication channels.”

Public health officials say to access regular reporting by the province for Ontario and public health units, go to the Ministry COVID data section and to Public Health Ontario’s COVID Data Tool.

A total of 69 Chatham-Kent residents have died from the virus since the pandemic began in March of 2020, public health officials say.

CK Public Health officials say 93 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Wednesday, increasing the total number of cases to 8,203 since the pandemic began.

A total of 11 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, public health officials added.

The current seven day rolling average case count (average number per day) sits at 39.

Public health officials say eight outbreaks are active across Chatham-Kent.

A total of 219,928 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date, 85,194 people 5+ have received at least one dose, 82,238 people 5+ have received two doses and 50,416 people 5+ have received three doses.
