Wallaceburg District Secondary School (WDSS) will be hosting their second schoolwide Colour Run on Thursday, June 2, 2022 starting at 12 p.m. and going until 2 p.m.

Janine Day, a WDSS staff member and coordinator of the event, told the Sydenham Current she thinks “it’s important to have school-wide events that include participation from all staff and students.

“This is our second year running the event so we’re hoping in the future we can add community involvement,” Day said.

The inclusive school-wide event will be followed by a barbeque, music, and lawn games.

Participants are asked to bring a canned food donation with proceeds going to the Salvation Army.

Those taking part will be grouped with students in their same grade and sent on route in 15-minute intervals.

Municipality of Chatham-Kent officials say road closures will be in effect during this time.

The route will start at WDSS (Elgin Street) and proceeding north on Selkirk Street, east on Brander Avenue, north on Lorne Avenue, east on Running Creek Drive, north on University Avenue, continuing north on Nelson Street, west through Crothers Park, south on Forhan Street, east on Jeanne Street and concluding back at the school.

Lanes will be temporarily closed to allow participants to cross roadways along the route and emergency vehicles will have access at all times, Municipal officials added.

The school hosted their first event, prior to the pandemic, back in 2019.
