Call for high school artwork

The Thames Art Gallery has announced two opportunities for high school students.

Students are invited to submit original work for the upcoming virtual exhibition “HERE I AM.”

Additionally, the Thames Art Gallery is offering a $1,000 art scholarship award for a graduating student, generously sponsored by local artist Cathy Van Raay-Myers.

“HERE I AM” Virtual Student Exhibition is a collection of works celebrating the curiosity, passion, technique, and talent of emerging young creatives in grades 9-12 across Chatham-Kent.

“Explore the visual narratives young artists, designers, and makers use to capture their unique stories and impressions about their world,” gallery officials say.

“The Thames Art Gallery is excited to work with local schools on this event, which will support our young artists and give them a platform to share their work and connect with a larger community.”

The Gallery is accepting submissions to the virtual exhibition and scholarship until June 28 at 11:59 p.m.

Application forms and guidelines for both the exhibition and scholarship are available on the Thames Art Gallery website at www.tagartspace.com and www.chatham-kent.ca/TAG

“HERE I AM” will be on display on the gallery’s website from July 14 – October 30 and is open to artists age 14-18 currently attending a Chatham-Kent secondary school.

All works must be original and completed within the last year, and all media will be accepted.

Each artist may submit a maximum of three works.

Three $100 people choice awards will be granted to participating artists.

To be considered for the art scholarship, interested candidates must be in their graduating year of high school and attending a post-secondary program in an arts-related discipline in the fall.

A separate application form is required for those who wish to apply.

If you have questions about submitting to either the virtual exhibition, art scholarship, or both, please contact the Thames Art Gallery at 226-312-2025 ext. 4425.
