Breast Buddies Dragon Boat Team ‘desperately’ looking for more paddlers

The Breast Buddies Dragon Boat Team is desperately looking for more paddlers.

Pat Vandamme, one of the founding members, told the Sydenham Current that their team, made up of breast cancer survivours, does not have enough people to fill a boat.

Dana Haggith caught up with Vandamme for an interview. Listen, below:

The Breast Buddies practice on Mondays and Thursday in Wallaceburg from 6 :30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Vandamme said it is an awesome group for support and exercise.

The team is non-competitive as well, Vandamme added.

“Thank you to so many wonderful supporters for the Breast Buddies… Bob Cooper, our angel along with Don Verhaeghe, these guys, have retrieved a dock from the Municipality for our team to use this summer,” Vandamme said.

“Bob is going to build one for us to keep. We thank these guys for going and getting the dock, making us a bridge to cross onto it and leaving it on Bob’s property. All this, and Bob has put a Johnny on the Spot there also for the ladies to use. This is very important, because we have girls driving from Sarnia, Chatham, Ridgetown, Alvinston, Bothwell, Thamesville and Wallaceburg area.”

Vandamme added: “We also would like to thank Tim and Kathleen Myers, and their friend Greg for the storing of our boat and transporting our boat to and from the Sydenham each Spring and Fall.”

Vandamme said this is the year of the ‘Breast Buddy’ comeback.

“But we need help from the media, advertising, and the word spreading, we need paddlers, we really need this to succeed this summer and keep the dream alive… Carol’s dream.”
