Assault and nudity charges laid after a disturbance at Canatara Park beach

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: On July 30, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a group of people attended the beach at Canatara Park to enjoy the evening.

A male, who is the accused in this matter, was initially lying naked on the beach.

When he observed the group of people who attended the beach the accused is alleged to have begun yelling racial slurs at them and telling them to go back to their country.

The accused also became physically aggressive towards the group.

At one point, he attempted to grab at a member of the group who ran away from him after a short chase.

Even though the group pleaded with the accused to leave them alone it is alleged that he didn’t but rather escalated in his behavior.

When he realized that he was being recorded he began to shove the individuals and threatened to punch them.

Even once the Sarnia Police arrived, the accused continue to be belligerent towards the victims and then the police as well.

The accused was taken into custody and was non-compliant with the police by refusing to follow instructions and at times attempting to spit at the officers.

– Four counts of assault

– One count of causing a disturbance
