Blood donor clinic being held in Wallaceburg on August 16

A blood donor clinic is being held on August 16, 2022 in Wallaceburg.

The clinic will be held at the UAW Hall from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

People can book an appointment by calling 1-888-236-6283 or by visiting blood.ca.

Canadian Blood Services officials say they are more than just blood.

“We encourage all Canadians to register their decision to become organ and tissue donors and share their decision with their family and loved ones,” Canadian Blood Services officials say.

“A healthy person can donate one of their kidneys to someone in need and still live a healthy normal life. Did you know? More than 3,000 Canadians are on a waiting list for kidney transplantation. Any healthy adult can be considered for living kidney donation. A living donor kidney transplant lasts, on average, 21 years, compared to 11 years for a deceased donor kidney transplant.”

Canadian Blood Services officials added: “This summer, we encourage you to help raise awareness for organ and tissue donation to work towards a day when no one in Canada dies while waiting for a transplant. Together, we’re on a mission to get Canadian kids of all ages learning and talking about organ and tissue donation in their classrooms and at home.
