Following the successful installation of a conductor pipe for a pressure relief well, work crews are beginning the same process for the APEC 1 well in the municipal parking lot in Wheatley.
The conductor pipe will be hammered into the ground and the current APEC 1 well casing will be removed, Municipal officials say.
“A pressure test of the current well casing was completed which will guide the engineers through placing the new pipe around its circumference,” Municipal officials stated.
“Once in place, the new pipe will enable the plugging of APEC 1. The process is estimated to take three weeks. When the next phase of the work resumes, an odour of gas may be detected.”
If residents at any time detect the smell of gas, they are asked to immediately call 9-1-1, Municipal officials added.
