Wallaceburg Wolves receive support from the Toronto Blue Jays Care Foundation

Community Living Wallaceburg Wolves baseball league received some exciting support from a big league team this summer.

The Toronto Blue Jays Care Foundation, Little League Canada and Baseball Canada, through the Challenger Baseball program, have helped out the local league in a big way, by providing sports equipment and accessible resources to support the Wolves.

The Wallaceburg Wolves have been playing for more than 12 years under the leadership of Coach Aaron VanDorsselaer, who died in 2021.

VanDorsselaer’s legacy with the Wolves continues, however; thanks, in part, to the Jays Care Foundation and Challenger Baseball, Community Living Wallaceburg officials say.

The Jays Care Foundation, through Challenger Baseball, promotes baseball as a tool to teach people essential skills such as teamwork and independence, how to build self-esteem and develop the confidence to try new challenges.

Most of all, though, it’s making baseball a way to have fun and be physically active.

The Wallaceburg Wolves definitely had fun this season, Community Living Wallaceburg officials say.

The Jays Care team provided the Wolves with incredible resources, including adaptive equipment, t-shirts and merchandise for players and also a wide variety of coaching tools to support the athletes.

48 athletes regularly came out to play this season.

“Individuals connected to Community Living Wallaceburg and others in our community had the opportunity to get back into the swing of baseball after a tough few years off due to the pandemic,” said Coach Jayna Dantas, Fund
Development Summer Student at Community Living Wallaceburg, in a media release.

“I have really enjoyed watching all the athletes step out of their comfort zone, have great fun and get active… and we plan to continue accessing this tremendous resource for years to come.”

The athletes and Community Living Wallaceburg are very grateful for the support from the Jays Care Foundation, Little League Canada and Baseball Canada, Community Living Wallaceburg officials say.

Community Living Wallaceburg, established in 1956, provides a full range of accommodation, community and
employment supports and services to more than 400 individuals and their families throughout Chatham-Kent and
Sarnia-Lambton.
