Jim Konecny, Ward 4 – North Kent, Council Candidate

Jim Konecny is one of eight candidates running for one of two spots on Municipality of Chatham-Kent Council, representing Ward 4 – North Kent.

Konecny, who lives in Dresden and works in the automotive industry, told the Sydenham Current he wants to be one of the 18 decision makers who will help to develop the future of the community, “ensuring it aligns with our communities values.

“I also want to support the vision we have of the future for our families, our businesses and communities. I have a genuine passion for Ward 4, its people and future success. Being on City Council would allow me to give back to the community that has supported and encouraged my family for the past 61 years. I want to be the voice of our small communities and agricultural sector in Ward 4,” Konecny said, adding he believes an effective Councillor listens to their constituents and helps them resolve their issues to the best of their ability.

“I will conduct myself with integrity and commitment and I intend to be true to these values as a Councillor for Ward 4,” he added.

Konecny said has been married to his wife Maryellen for 34 years.

“We have lived in Dresden all of our life and together have raised a daughter and son,” he said.

Konecny’s community involvement, includes:

– Volunteer with the Terry Fox run in Dresden for five years

– Registrar for Dresden Minor Hockey for three years

– Ran for Town of Dresden Council

– Involved in many community events and organizations

– Junior Farmers

– Dresden Shines

– Dresden Optimist

– Dresden Horticultural Society

“Having lived in the town of Dresden since 1961 I have seen a lot of changes within the community and surrounding area,” Konecny said.

“I want to be a strong voice for the community and work with the constituents to solve their issues to the best of my ability. I want to represent your views and be your voice and answer your questions on council. Our communities have strong group of volunteers, and I would like to support and expand current initiatives and work to bring new opportunities to showcase our communities.”

Konecny said the communities in Ward 4 have come together to create exceptional events, such as the Christmas and Summer Night Markets.

“We can use these events as a template to create new and exciting events that showcase our interests,” he added.

“I want to work directly with administration to encourage growth of small businesses and revitalize smaller communities. I would encourage council to provide a stronger police presence in our community as well as focus on decentralization of services. I would encourage new and appropriate opportunities for our youth, including safe and affordable family amenities.”

Election Day is October 24, 2022.
