The Chatham-Kent to the Power of Young People initiative seeks input and participation from young people aged 15 to 39 across Chatham-Kent.
There are two opportunities open now for young people to help solve community issues with other decision-makers.
The CKY initiative is supported by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Community Attraction and Promotion (CAP) division which engages young people and provides feedback to Municipal Council and community organizations on matters that impact the attraction, retention, and engagement of young people locally.
The CKY Survey of Young People, which has been open throughout the summer, closes on September 30, 2022.
Young people are asked to complete the survey at www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/cky-survey-of-young-people to provide feedback on living in Chatham-Kent.
In addition, the CKY Advisory Group is recruiting new members between the ages of 15-39, with applications being accepted via www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/cky-application until October 6, 2022.
William Locke, Co-Chair of the CKY Advisory Group says that “the importance of young voices in our community cannot be understated. We need more highly engaged young people to take an interest in the way our community makes decisions, and to get involved in local government and community work. CKY is a great place to start getting involved.”
The Advisory Group consists of up to 14 members between the ages of 15 and 39, who work, live, or study in Chatham-Kent. Efforts are made to include members that are reflective of Chatham-Kent’s population in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, and economic status, as well as represent diverse areas of knowledge, expertise, and interest. Members also represent the geography of Chatham-Kent.
“We need more unique voices at our table. These conversations are distilled and given to council and municipal staff to aid in their decision-making when it comes to issues affecting young people. The more voices we have, the better guidance we can give. We need your voice.” added Co-Chair Morena McDonald.
