Darrin Canniff was re-elected as the Mayor of Chatham-Kent on Monday night, October 24, 2022.
Canniff cruised to a landslide victory, gathering 17,981 votes or 75.13% of the total vote.
Canniff will begin his second consecutive term as Mayor, when the new Council is sworn-in on November 15, 2022.
“Thank you for your support once again Chatham-Kent, I will continue to strive to do a great job,” Canniff posted on social media.
“You made it clear that we are on the same page as we work together to make Chatham-Kent a great place to live, work and play. I am excited and honoured to have the opportunity to continue to work on your behalf and thankful for your continued support as your mayor.”
Canniff added: “Congratulations to the new Councilors. For those Councilors that will be moving on, thank you for your service.”
He said the last four years have been “very interesting” and not without its challenges.
“We have proven that, even in tough times, we were able to continue to grow our economy and attract new residents,” he said.
“Moving forward, there are a number of exciting initiatives expected to be announced that we can all be very proud of. Over the next four years, I look forward to an incredible journey seeing Chatham-Kent progress toward its full potential.”
Canniff added: “Thank you to both my family for your support and to my campaign team for all their efforts. To all our residents, thank you for your support. Together we can make great things happen in Chatham-Kent.”
William Pickard finished second in the race for mayor, gathering 3,588 votes or 14.99& of the total vote.
Andy Fisher rounded out the field of three gathering 2,364 votes or 9.88%.
