Darany (Dora) Rattanasithy, 65, died peacefully at Chatham-Kent Hospice on November 11th 2022, surrounded by her family.
Darany was born on September 22th, 1957”, at Bokeo Houei-Sai, Huakhong District.
The eighth child of Mr Phia Phoummy and Mrs Chansouk Chitdamrong.
Darany had spoken fondly of her time growing up with her ten siblings and her extensive family in Laos.
Darany went to Houei-Sai primary school and secondary school Darasamouth and completed high school in 1976.
Darany loved music and art. Her hobbies and pastimes included wood & fruit carving, sculpture, drawing, sewing, Laotian art, singing Laotian folksongs and playing Laotian instruments.
Darany was fluent in Laotian, Thai, French, and English.
Her language skills combined with her adventurous, and fearless spirit infused her love of travel, food, and history.
Darany was a generous and kind person.
Her happiest memories were with her friends and family in the community.
One of her fondest memories was the opportunity to sculpt and build the That Luang monument at the Phommaviharam Buddhist Temple in Kitchener.
Darany will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Sane, and their two children, Sara and Don.
