Structure fire in Wheatley

Firefighters from Station #20 – Wheatley were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 67 Elm Street, Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Service officials posted on social media on Thursday morning.

“Upon arrival smoke and flames were visible from the structure,” fire officials say.

“A request was put in for assistance from Station #19 Tilbury. The fire was brought under control quickly and firefighters remained on scene to perform salvage and overhaul operations.”

Fire officials say there were no injuries reported and damage is estimated at $350,000.

“Smoke alarms save lives,” fire officials added.
