Public school board preparing for winter storm

The Lambton-Kent District School (LKDSB) is making preparations ahead of the anticipated winter storm.

“Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement alerting residents in areas of Ontario, including Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton, of a significant winter storm expected to begin Thursday and continue through the weekend,” John Howitt, Director of Education for the LKDSB, said in a letter sent to parents on Thursday.

“We hope we will not need to implement inclement weather procedures; however, based on the Environment Canada warning and out of an abundance of caution, today, school staff are advising all students to take home any personal items that they might need during the holiday break (such as eyeglasses, medications and winter clothing, etc.) in the event buses are cancelled in your region or there is an unexpected school closure on Friday, December 23.”

Howitt encouraged people to watch the LKDSB website, social media, the MySBI app or Student Transportation website on Friday, December 23 for school bus updates.

“Wishing all LKDSB families and staff a safe and healthy holiday season,” Howitt said.

“We look forward to welcoming all in-person learners back to school on Monday, January 9, 2023.”
