Elizabeth Reek

Elizabeth Grace “Betty” Reek (McEvoy) of Port Lambton, passed away peacefully at the Oak’s Retirement Home in Wallaceburg on Saturday, January 7th, 2023 at the age of 97.

Betty was born on the 6th Concession (Point Line) in Sombra Township in 1925, to Frederick & Theresa (Reedy) McEvoy.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Edward ‘Ted’ Reek in February of 1999, and loving mother of Larry Reek (Louise), Kathy Donahue (Don), Karen Corr (Larry Trepanier) and Doug Reek (Lyrissa Seney).

Dear grandmother of Tammy, Terri, Sean, Robin, Jody, Jamie, Megan, Ashley, Hunter and Alora and great grandmother of Mitchell, Brady, Brooke, Paige, Bradley, Luke, Samantha, Kaia, Taylor, Haddie, Connor, Nolan and Mya and great great grandmother of Aria, Josie and Hudson.

Betty was the last living McEvoy sibling.

Predeceased of the late Dan McEvoy, John McEvoy, Catherine Myers, Tom McEvoy, Marie Green, Agnes Bradd and Pat McEvoy.

Betty grew up on the family farm, and happily lit the fire every morning at the local catholic school.

She also enjoyed playing cards, and attending the Sombra and Port Lambton dances.

She had worked at Prestolite, Schultz, Libby’s, Luster and Dura Chrome until she retired.

After she retired she easily slipped into a loving grandmother role.

Grandma loved making pyjamas for all her grandkids and was always eager to have them over for sleepovers, baking and sewing lessons, fort making, Coke floats, playing euchre and 31(counts as points!).

She also loved shopping, drinking coffee and getting her hair done for church.

She was a lifelong member of the CWL; her Catholic faith was very important to her.

She was well known for her apple pies, chilli-sauce, pickles and peanut butter cookies.

She will be thought of daily and greatly missed by all.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Port Lambton on Tuesday, January 10 at 1 PM with visiting at the church in the hour prior.

Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg is entrusted with the arrangements.
