Suspect smashes into police cruiser, flees scene in stolen vehicle

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On January 14, 2023 the Chatham-Kent Police responded to a stolen vehicle complaint in Tilbury.

The vehicle was observed entering Chatham shortly thereafter and several Police units coordinated to stop the vehicle in a safe manner.

Two Chatham-Kent Police vehicles were used to initiate a ‘Rolling Block’, a maneuver designed to prevent a suspect vehicle from fleeing by blocking its path and forcing it to slow down and eventually stop.

The suspect vehicle rammed the Police cruiser in front of it and proceeded to flee through a red light at an intersection.

The suspect vehicle then struck an unrelated motorist and came to a stop.

There were no major injuries as a result of the collision.

The accused was identified as a 30 year old Tilbury Woman and arrested at the scene.

While under arrest the accused was found to be intoxicated by illicit drugs and subsequently failed a sobriety test by a Drug Recognition Officer.

The accused was on house arrest for several offences at the time of this incident and was found to be breaching their Conditional Sentence Order.

Pertaining to the events of this date the accused was charged with; Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police, Fail to Stop After Accident x2, Operation While Prohibited x2, Obstruct Police and Operation While Impaired.

As a result of breaching their house arrest and incurring multiple new criminal charges the accused was held pending a bail hearing.
