Blenheim’s Abby Stonehouse helps Canada capture gold at IIHF U18 women’s world championship

Canada’s women’s ice hockey team has secured their second consecutive gold medal at the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship

Blenheim’s Abby Stonehouse, 16, helped Canada capture gold with a 10-0 win over host Sweden on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

Stonehouse scored two goals and added two assists in five games at the tournament, despite being held off the scoresheet in Sunday’s championship game.

Stonehouse was team Canada’s fifth leading scorer.

She also recorded 12 shots and was +4 during the tournament.

Overall, the Canadians set new IIHF records for the greatest goal difference and most goals scored in a final.

The win gives Canada their seventh gold medal at the event, one shy of the all-time record set by the United States.
