Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue receives $25,000 grant to go toward new central command unit

Hydro One announced Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue (CKFR) as one of the 25 charitable organizations, Indigenous communities and municipalities that will receive a grant of $25,000 from the Energizing Life Community Fund.

This is the third year in a row that the fund will support community-led initiatives that promote physical, emotional, and psychological safety and well-being for Ontarians, CKFR officials say, adding they are proud to receive this funding, which will be used to rebuild their central command unit.

The department will be using an existing fire truck and repurposing.

Command Units are specially designed vehicles that act as a forward command and control point.

It is sent to the scene of larger scale or prolonged incidents, where extra command support is required.

They also provide firefighters, officers and our emergency partners protection from elements as well as the ability to provide decontamination as part of our ongoing cancer prevention strategy.

“All of our fire trucks are engaged in protecting the community, the Command Unit is the only truck engaged to protect our firefighters and partners,” stated Fire Chief Chris Case, in a press release.

“The new incident command unit will be used across CK support all of our 19 fire stations.”

Hydro One Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, is Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution provider, committed to the communities where they live and work through community investment, sustainability, and diversity initiatives.
