Man arrested for shoplifting

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 6:46 p.m., police responded to a theft investigation on Wellington Street West in Chatham.

The man was observed removing merchandise from the store shelves and attempting to leave without paying.

The man was detained by store security until police arrived.

The 27-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft and possession of the stolen property.

He was released with a future court date of April 17, 2023.

Man arrested for impaired driving

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 8:18 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Erie Street in Wheatley.

It was reported a vehicle had struck two parked Canada Post vehicles and then came to rest in a ditch.

Police arrived on the scene and believed the driver to be under the influence of alcohol.

The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 33-year-old Leamington man was charged with having a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit.

He was released with conditions and a future court date of April 3, 2023.
